Adrian Jackson is a Consulting Manager with Jacobs Marketing Solutions. Jackson has been with the company since September of 2018, and has seen great strides in success since that day. This month, our team had the opportunity to sit down with Jackson to discuss life, business, and goals.
Where are you from?
“I was born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi- my only home!”
How would your parents have described you as a kid?
“Well a lot of my time was spent away from my father, so I didn’t get to be around him as much. My mother would say I am very athletic, and one of the most outgoing individuals in the family. She would call me intelligent, in her mind, and handsome. She will always say her son is handsome.”
Were you in any sports or extracurriculars?
“Yes, I played almost every sport. Now, was I good at every sport?! NO, but my goal was to play as many sports as I could so I wouldn’t have to stay at home. Also, I wanted to stay prepared and in shape for the next extracurricular activity to come into play. I played football, baseball, soccer, track, and a little basketball.”
How did that competitive environment help develop you?
“My competitive nature was built from my involvement with sports. I was given the ability to learn how to adapt to different individuals, no matter who they are. I learned how to control anger, how to build my friends up, and how to carry myself throughout life in general. It developed me into the individual I am today.”
Did you have any idea you would end up in this field?
“My calling was in this field- did I know how or what I would be doing next? Not at all. However, I did know that I would be dealing with a lot of people, which was an ideal career path for my personality type.”
What is one life experience that you feel has shaped you?
“The biggest life experience that I feel shaped me as a person has been the relationship with my parents. I wanted a closer relationship with my parents, not only for my own comfort but to be able to talk to them. I feel like my character is driven from the experiences in my past. That is not to say I had a difficult life because we were always taken care of. At times, I just felt like I had no one to turn to for advice or answers, so a lot of my mistakes came from me having trial and error within my own decision making.”
What were your first thoughts when starting with the company? What was something unique you noticed?
“When I first started the company, I was very skeptical of the opportunity. Something that was very unique to me was the opportunity for advancement. Never in my life, have I seen the opportunity for growth to be so rapid. Not only do you grow and build your own office but your building your own personal character within other individuals.”
How would you describe the culture at your company?
“Very diverse. We have a number of different personalities within the organization, which I think builds the opportunity for growth on so many levels. It’s not just limited to one culture.”
What has been your best memory with the company?
“My best memory to date has to be the St. Louis Mardi Gras With Rebby, a mentor and consultant in the marketing field.”
What is something you’ve learned through your work you didn’t know before?
“How to deal with different individuals. Everyone is different and everyone learns differently. I have learned how to adjust to those individuals’ personalities.”
How has this career changed you as a person?
“This career has made me more passionate about my own personal goals. I now see a lot of things differently than I did in the past. I understand why I have to do what I have to do.”
What are your goals with the company?
“I want to help our client expand, whether it be in Jackson or outside of Mississippi. With my training and experience, I am confident in my ability to grow their market share and brand.”
Do you have any mentors inside/outside of work?
“Yes, Jeff Jean Louis has been giving me a lot of knowledge as far as going forward with the opportunity. J. Jacobs happens to be one person, I feel will continue to lead me in the correct direction, and I am very thankful for his passion towards his company.”
What do you do for fun when you’re not working?
“I love music. I write and compose music. Whatever genre it may be, I am an instrument waiting to kick a tune.”
Adrian, thank you for all that you do. You inspire and grow our team with each day, and we couldn’t be more lucky to call you a friend and a teammate. Whether it is through your music or through your business, you show an incredible amount of work ethic and drive.
